Paying for College

Paying for college can be expensive, that's no secret! Fortunately, with help from scholarships, grants, work study and loans its not an impossible task.
Don't forget to file your FAFSA by April 1st to be eligible for Missouri state aid. Make sure to check each college for their individual deadline, it may be earlier. More specific information about paying for college can be found at the following links:

September 2011
___ Check in the Counselors Office and with Ms. Solomon about national and local scholarships.
___ Start a checklist of all financial aid application requirements, priority dates and deadlines.
October 2011
___ Start requesting letters of recommendation for scholarships. Make sure it's four weeks in advance of the deadline.
November 2011
___ Starting November 1, you can visit www.fafsa.ed.gov to see how the site works.
___ Get PINs for the FAFSA for both yourself and your parent at www.pin.ed.gov.
December 2011
___ Start gathering what you need to complete the FAFSA. (See FAFSA checklist)
___ Continue to apply for scholarships
___ Attend Financial Aid Info Night at GHS
January 2012
___ Parents: File your taxes ASAP!
___ Submit your FAFSA
___ Submit other financial aid forms that may be required.
February 2012
___ File FAFSA and other aid forms now, if you didn't do so in January.
___ Correct or update your Student Aid Report (SAR) that follows a few days after the FAFSA.
March 2012
___ If necessary, write to the financial aid offices of your colleges to alert them to any special circumstances.
___ Submit any additional documentation that may be required. Colleges will start sending requests for verification this month.
___ Send copies of your FAFSA to any scholarship that require it for their application.
April 2012
___ Compare your financial aid award letters with your parents and Ms. Sims
___ Accept the aid package for the college of your choice.
May 2012
___ Consider need-based loans to cover your family's out-of-pocket college expenses
